THE JEW İN AKHİSAR (MANİSA/TURKEY): OR YEHUDA AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL
In this study, agriculture schools constructed in Anatolia and Thracia by the Jewish community - one of the most significant among the minorities within Ottoman Empire - are examined. Or Yehuda Agriculture School which is located in Kayalıoğlu town in Akhisar district within Manisa province is particularly handled, which is one of the few agriculture schools that are established within this scope and achieved to remain till today. The migration of Sefarad Jews from Western Europe to Ottoman territories and also the social and economic conditions of Jewish community during first quarter of XX. Century are examined, therefore the motives for establishing their own schools are determined. In this respect Alliance Israel Universelle (A.I.U) Institution - which is the most influential on establishing Jewish schools in Ottoman territories - and the schools established by this institution are examined.
